What changed
SD43, the Coquitlam school district, redrew catchment lines for three Port Moody elementary schools. The change affects Moody, Mountain Meadows, and Eagle Ridge. Two neighbourhoods move into Mountain Meadows.
Suter Brook Village comes out of Moody Elementary and into Mountain Meadows. The district describes it as "addresses from South of Murray Street to North of Barnett Highway/St. Johns Street and West of Ioco Road to Capilano Road".
Newport Village comes out of Eagle Ridge Elementary and into Mountain Meadows. The district describes it as "addresses from South of Ungless Way/Ioco Road to Guildford Way/Murray Street and West of Guilford Way to the railroad tracks behind the Port Moody Recreation Centre and Trasolini Field".
Heritage Mountain and Pleasantside are not on the change list and are unaffected. The same October proposal also covered a separate secondary-level change for Burke Mountain, Terry Fox, Minnekhada, and Kwayhquitlam, which is a different matter from this Port Moody elementary decision.

When it takes effect and who it applies to
The catchment change "will be in place prior to school registration for the September 2026 school year".
It applies to new registrations only. In the district's words, "The change will apply to new students only. Students currently attending Moody Elementary, Mountain Meadows, or Eagle Ridge will continue to attend their respective schools".
Siblings are covered too. "The sibling clause will continue to apply for all three sites".
Why the district did it
Moody Elementary is being relocated further east along St. Johns Street, and the district says "increased densification occurring in Port Moody, specifically in the current catchment area of Moody Elementary School" will strain its capacity over time. Eagle Ridge is expected to feel enrolment pressure "as development occurs in the Coronation neighbourhood." Mountain Meadows, meanwhile, "has short, medium, and long term capacity to accept more students", which is why the two neighbourhoods were moved there.
The homes are coming faster than the classrooms here, and moving two neighbourhoods into a school that still has room is a way to hold the line until new seats get funded and built.

What input parents had
The district identified potential changes, shared them with partner groups, staff, families, and childcare centres at the affected schools, and collected feedback "through an on-line survey that received 42 responses" (as recorded in the November 25, 2025 minutes). The proposal was presented for questions on October 21, 2025, where grandfathering, siblings, new developments, and the communication plan were all raised. The decision was recorded on November 25, 2025, and results were to be communicated to families and staff through the affected schools.
For scale: when the district ran the same process for its next boundary change, on the Coquitlam side (Burke Mountain, Terry Fox, Minnekhada, Kwayhquitlam, for September 2027), the survey "received 376 responses" (January 13, 2026 minutes). Same process, two very different levels of reach: 42 responses in Port Moody, 376 in Coquitlam, in a district of more than 32,000 students.
